McCabe, New York City, dated Feb. 26, 1889, which discusses impact of prohibition on social and economic conditions in Iowa ["The banking business of a State is, perhaps, as fair a barometer of business as can be found. The number of banks in the State has increased from 186 in 1883 to 244 in 1888; deposits have increased.. Tramps are very scarce in Iowa.. My views heretofore advanced in favor of the law are strengthened and confirmed by added experience. Our people are more determined than ever to make no compromise with the saloon.."].
