Josselyn, George S. - DESCRIPTIVE CATALOGUE Of AMERICAN GRAPE VINES. Price List. Small Fruit Plants, Etc.

Title: DESCRIPTIVE CATALOGUE Of AMERICAN GRAPE VINES. Price List. Small Fruit Plants, Etc.
Description: Fredonia, NY: George S. Josselyn, 1884. 1st printing (presumed). Light green elaborately printed paper wrappers. Unpaginated, but 12 pp. Cover design by W. C. Scranton, other engravings throughout (large grape design by Francis B. Hayes). 9-1/2" x 6-1/8". Moderate wear to wrappers (worn and slightly age-toned). Paper lightly toned. Withal, a VG+ example. "My trade still continues to increase, every year showing a large increase over sales of preceding [sic] year. Thus it seems that customers are satisfied. I keep all vines in cellar over winter with roots in fine sand, and this way of keeping grape vines, etc. is well worth the inspection and consideration of those wishing vigorous, healthy, well-cared-for vines. Grape roots stored in sand are worth, for planting, about double those stored without sand." Includes a laid-in "Condensed Price List for Winter of 1889-'90" and laid in slip entitled "Special Notice" with new items (the Esther berry and the Rockwood berry) for sale. The two additional berries were both originated by Mr. E. W. Bull of Concord, Mass, which "as most nurserymen and vineyardists are aware Mr. Bull was the originator of the Concord Grape". No institutional holdings of this 1884 catalogue recorded on OCLC. Rare.
