Description: New York: , 1859. Early, if not 1st, US publication of this Dickens' letter, reprinted from Yates' 1859 privately-printed pamphlet (cf. NCBEL III, 830 & 1083). Disbound. Dickens letter occupies 4-1/2 column inches above the fold on the front page. Entire newspaper 8 pp in length, 6 columns per page. Elephant folio. 22-1/4" x 15-1/4". Splitting along vertical fold. Horizontal fold-line. Some edge rash, and expected yellowing to paper. A VG copy. A contemporaneous publication of Dickens' 24 November 1858 letter to Thackeray, attempting to mediate the Garrick club brouhaha that sprung up between Thackeray & Edmund Yates [a Dickens' protege, of sorts]. As a result of this conflict, Dickens & Thackery became estranged, not speaking again until shortly before Thackeray's death in 1863 (cf. Johnson, TRAGEDY And TRIUMPH, pp 931 - 936).
