Modern full brown calf binding, executed in a period style, with red morocco title label to spine. Red speckled edges., Binding - Fine. Text & frontis - VG+. Frontis of Charles I by R White (modeled on Marshall's emblematic frontis design found in the Eikon Basilike. cf. Madan EIKON, Appendix VI). Double rule t.p. border. ¶ Manley long in his King's employ, reputedly from the age of 16 [according to his daughter], until 1646 when he was "obligated" to quit the kingdom, spending his exile in Holland. After the Restoration, he resumed his military service to the Crown, becoming Lt-Gov & Commander-In-Chief of the Isle of Jersey. This work by Manley, the last published in his lifetime, is rather uncommon: OCLC locates 9 copies worldwide; with only two copies having come to auction these past 30 years, the last being 1997.
