[MISSOURI - ARKANSAS RAILROAD RATE BROADSIDE]., IMPORTANT TO ALL! Bound for the Happy Lands! Low Rates to Arkansas and Missouri via Saint Louis Over the Popular St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern R'y.
St. Louis: Jno. McKittrick & Co., Printers., (n. d.). 20-7/8" x 6-15/16". Ca mid-1880s. 1 sheet, printed recto only. the mid-1880s. Large (4-1/4" dia.) woodcut seal to center of broadside, showing a winged railway wheel over the country-side of Arkansas & Missouri, with lettering "Bound for the Happy Lands". ¶ 1873 saw the first train from St. Louis reaching Little Rock. A decade later, after divers reformations & amalgamations, the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway (SLIMS) was formed. SLIMS was to serve the region for over 3 decades, ultimately merging with the Missouri Pacific in 1917. This ephemeral advertising piece, besides listing rates, agents & stops, issued primarily to publicize the availability of land which the company was selling now that the railroad was completed. A very nice item from the early days of the St Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern which provides valuable historical pricing & location data for the line. Images available, and provided on request.
