O.B.E. preface to the original edition, two appendices and index. The text is illustrated with 112 black-and-white photographs, five tables and 140 maps and/or diagrams, all within the text. Dark red coloured textured boards with gilt titles to the backstrip. A little rubbing to the edges of the backstrip and to the book corners. A few marks to the book panels. Browning to the text block edges and to the endpapers and there is light age toning of the internal text. Colour illustrated dustwrapper, being a reproduction of a traditional Fijian design, with gray titles to the front panel and black titles to the backstrip. A little rubbing and chipping to the dustwrapper corners and rubbing to the other dustwrapper creases. Darkening of the fold over creases and of the backstrip. Browning of the fold over flaps. This book was first published in 1951 and this edition, of 1965, has had extensive revision and in some instances complete rewriting of passages, due to new information necessitating in the rewriting. A handbook on the Fijian Islands, taking in the Geography, exploration, discovery, climate, flora and fauna and other pertinent details about the archipelago. Size: 4to - up to 12" tall - Quarto.
