All engraved plates appear to be present and all with tissue guards. 3 maps are called for and none are present. 9 x 6. Bound in 3/4 brown leather over brown cloth-covered boards. Marbled end papers and matching marbled page edges. These books have been professionally restored. The spine leather has some cracks and a few chips. There is moderate foxing on the plates, mostly on the margins. Overall shelf wear, else an attractive, tightly bound set of scarce books. "The voyage was intended for the exploration and survey of the Pacific coast of North and South America and the Pacific Basin. The various harbors along the coast of California and northwest to Alaska were surveyed, and a month's journey in open boats was made up the Sacramento River from San Francisco Bay. The Hawaiian Islands, The Marquesas, The Society Islands, The Tonga Islands, New Guinea, etc. were visited" An important book.
