Montreal: R. & A. Miller, 1853. Hardcover. 12mo. Original (?) plain muslin, "5" at foot of spine in black. (iii)-vi, (410), [1, publisher's ad], [1, blank] pp. on rear endpaper, illustrations in text. Light soiling to covers, page edges tanned, text paper a little toned; lacking the leaf before the title leaf, last leaf of Contents (pp vii-viii), and rear free endpaper; 1854 ink ownership inscription on front free endpaper of one Miss Sophia Turner, Marysburgh, School Section No. 3 - Miss Turner reasserts her ownership on the Preface page, where there is a small hole to a blank area. Unable to leave it alone, she stakes her claim again on the rear blank page, which also has a very small hole and pencil scribbles; scattered light soiling in the text; in all a good copy, tight in the binding, and not beat up. TPL 8416 lists the 1855 printing, but not this one. There was a Toronto edition in 1851 (TPL 8128).
