Description: Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4); above the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove appears through a gap in clouds surrounded by angels and putti; beneath in a room the Virgin and the apostles look up in awe. After a painting by Vasari made in 1568 for Santa Croce in Florence. The preparatory drawing is in the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Bologna (inv. 1651).Signed and dated on the bottom right: Corneli Cort sc. 1574.The plate was republished in 1602 by Giovanni Orlandi (fl.1590-1640).On verso collectors' marks: Kupferstich Kabinett Berlin (L. 1606, L. 5998), Graf von Leppel (L. 1672).Cut within the plate mark; bottom margin with the address of Lafrery and Orlandi not present. Engraving on paper, cut within plate mark, mounted on another sheet of paper with hand-drawn double frame; total (print): 437 x 287 mm; state II or III/3; some rubbing, some scratches in the middle part, otherwise in good condition.
