Amplifying a text originally published in Germany with the title Delitiae Galliae & Angliae (1619), the publisher N. Van Ravesteyn incorporates personal experience and excerpts from other travel literature to outline five journeys: from Strasbourg through Burgundy; from Poitiers via Guyenne, Languedoc, and Provence to Paris; from Paris to St. Malo in Brittany; from St. Malo via Dieppe to Paris and from Paris back to Strasbourg.Van Ravesteyn introduces his text with a letter to the reader dated 21 August 1647; a diagram follows on country nomenclature drawn from an Italian book by F.S. A section with general prescriptions for travel--for instance, Men neme eenen vrolijcken en spraecksamen medghesel--plus a brief text by Justus Lipsius precede the book's presentation of itineraries.
