SOR JUANA INES DE LA CRUZ Bookseller Photo Poesía lírica
EN ESPAÑOL, Catedra Ediciones. 2004. (ISBN: 8437611040) Mass Market Paperback. 313 pp. Slight corner feathering, else fine. In 1664, at the age of 16, the young Juana was sent to live in Mexico City, and entered the Convent of the Discalced Carmelites of St. Joseph, but only remained there briefly. In 1669, she entered the Convent of the Order of St. Jerome where she would stay until her death. There is unending debate as to whether she had a personal romantic life nuanced in her poems, or whether it was allegorical. She did have to join a convent to properly attend to the education of her gifted mind, as schooling was otherwise unavailable for women of her time. She was exceptional not only for her intelligence and beauty, but also because she wrote literature centered on freedom. Near Fine.

Offered for US$ 10.00 by: Second Story Books - Book number: 011768
