It went through more than twenty editions up to 1870, and was a standard work on the Tuscan dialect for more than 120 years. The author (1690-1758) was born in Bologna and educated at the Jesuit College in Rome. He was not only famous for his works on the Tuscan language but also for his work on Boccaccio.
