First edition "published by subscription only", 8vo, pp. xv, [1], [17]- 479; frontispiece 21 plates, 100 illus. in the text, primarily wood- engravings, 2 maps, 1 double-p. facsimile, and 3 plans and charts; original pictorial brown cloth stamped in black and silver; old rubberstamp on front pastedown and rear free endpaper, else a very good copy. The Jeanette went adrift in the ice near Herald Island in November, 1879, was crushed, and finally sank. Of the thirty-three men who left the ship, 25 reached the Lena Delta where eleven others perished.
