I; all else good and sound. The dedication is to Richard Brinsley Sheridan. The first paragraph of this book was composed by Samuel Johnson. It was Johnson who proposed to Davies that he undertake this biography, and supplied "the early part of Garrick's life" and "several diverting anecdotes" (Courtney & Smith).
