With a Taste of Some Letters; and, A Brief Character of the Low-Countries … being Three Weeks Observation of the Vices and Virtues of the Inhabitants (both London, 1670); recent half tan Niger morocco over marbled boards, waterstained on spine and lower cover, stains pervading text at top and bottom. A book with a publishing history spanning more than 200 years. Felltham (1602-1668) first published the Resolves, a series of moral essays, at the age of 18 in 12mo, [?1620]. By 1628 it had grown to a quarto; the 8th edition of 1661 was the first in folio, of which this "ninth impression" is a verbatim reprint. An edition appeared in octavo in 1709, and selections from the Resolves appeared in 12mo in 1818. Pickering reprinted the quarto of 1631 in 1840. "Felltham's poems are few in number, but varied in style; some have considerable merit, and none are contemptible" (DNB). Wing F656.
