First edition, 8vo, 148pp., 6 facsimile plates; some light scuffing, else near fine in contemporary full red morocco gilt, the name of ““James Thompson McCleary” in gilt on the upper cover. The correspondence came to LC through Peter Force and “covers a very interesting period in the history of the English operations in the West Indies,” including the expeditions against Cartagena and Cuba, with much relating to the slave trade, piracy, and the American colonies. McCleary was a Representative from Minnesota in the U.S. Congress (1893-1907).
