Boston Public Library. 1977, First Edition. Hard Cover. One of a thousand copies printed by Meriden Gravure for the Boston Public Library, which traditionally takes great care in publishing works of engraving. This 280-page catalogue raisonne of Nason's work in wood and copper engraving, together with excerpts from Nason's letters and conversations with Comstock and one of his essays on wood engraving, a biographical essay by Walter Muir Whitehill, commentaries on a selection of prints by Paul Swenson, and a reprint of an essay by John Taylor Arms. As might be expected (but not always found), excellent indexing: of the prints by name and by special mention, in general, and names and places mentioned but not shown. Beyond all that are the images of Nason's work, which is wonderful, with each image carefully captioned as to title, type of engraving, date, size, and size of edition if known. A must-have for the collector of Nason's work and for those who appreciate fine printing. Fine hardcover binding in Fine dust jacket. (Note: Large and heavy, so expect extra shipping charges.).
