Written by Edward Baines, the editor and proprietor of Leeds Mercury. He was an author of both historical and geographical reference works. In full straight grained morocco bindings with gilt stamping to board edges and spines. Externally, sound with slight rubbing to boards and extremities. Small amounts of rubbing to the joints and to the head and tail of spines. Front hinge to volume III is tender. Rear hinge to volume IV is slightly strained but firm. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are age toned with numerous handling marks. Spotting to the plates and instances of light scattered spots throughout.
