A history and a description of the palatine counties of Lancaster and Chester, forming the north-western division of England from earliest ages to 1867, with an account of the rise and progress of manufactures and commerce, and civil and mechanical engineering in these districts. Thomas Baines was an English journalist and historian and active promoter of liberal interests in Lancashire. He published valuable histories of northern areas including Liverpool, Lancashire and Yorkshire and his histories are characterised by fullness of detail. In original cloth bindings with gilt detailing. Externally smart with some bumping and wear to spines. Spines faded. Hinges tender to all volumes and rear hinge failed to division II. Internally, firmly bound although strained in places. Pages generally bright with some spotting throughout, heavier to first few pages particularly at title pages. Very Good . Ill.: H. Warren.
