Herbert Ernest Bates, CBE (1905–74), better known as H. E. Bates, was an English writer and author. Many of his stories depict life in the rural Midlands of England, particularly his native Northamptonshire. Bates was partial to taking long midnight walks around the Northamptonshire countryside and this often provided the inspiration for his stories. In a green cloth binding with original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally smart. Some light bumping. Dustwrapper is sound, though with a couple of small closed tears and handling marks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, apart from some spotting to the textblock edge and some foxing to the endpapers. Good . Ill.: None. Good/Very Good.
