Description: London, Crown Buildings, 1875. Leather. A scarce two volume set of London Society, in attractive leather binding. Described as a "illustrated magazine of light and amusing literature for the hours of relaxation", the volumes contain plates throughout, with serialised stories and poems, as well as literary criticism. An interesting example of nineteenth century periodicals, as well as the idea of the serialised novel. In half-calf binding with gilt detailing and paper-covered boards. Externally sound, there is wear to the board,s joints, extremities and backstrips, with significant tenderness to hinges. Internally, the pages are generally firmly bound, with some strain in areas, and are generally bright and clean throughout, though there are some instances of spotting.
