This work discusses the history of Cambridge in its relation to national life and the context of medieval life that shaped the University's beginnings. It also describes several other historical periods and episodes of the University's timeline such as post-reformation and the Romantic age. Chapters include 'The Dawn', 'The First Colleges', 'Erasmus and the Reformation', 'Spenser and Drama', 'Milton and the Commonwealth', 'The Times of Gray' and 'Tennyson and the New Age.' In a half crushed morocco binding with cloth covered boards. Externally, smart with gilt stamping to the spine and board. Externally, very smart with small areas of light rubbing to the joints and to the extremities. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Internally, firmly bound.
