Various Authors - The Book of Common Prayer

Title: The Book of Common Prayer
Description: London, John Reeves, 1801. Leather. An early 19th century Book of Common Prayer - the accompaniment to the Anglican Communion - bound in full morocco. The book was first published in 1549, and resulted from the English Reformation and the break from Rome. It was revised in 1604 by James I, and then again in 1662 as a result of the English Civil War. That final edition is the one published here, and is to this day the official prayer book of the Church of England. This copy includes contemporary annotation to the front blanks, consisting of notes on the conduct of the ceremonies within. They probably originate from the clergyman who was the original owner. Paginated from Copac. Undated title page, dated from dedication. In full morocco. Externally a trifle worn, with general shelfware and marks of handling. The binding has failed except for the rear hinge, which is weak. The text block itself is generally firmly bound, except for the first few dozen pages where it is significantly loosened. There are contemporary ink inscriptions to the front free endpaper and here and there throughout. Good Only . Ill.: None. Good Only .
