Arnulf was a partisan of the king in the conflict between Henry II and Thomas Becket, and after the murder of the latter undertook the royal defence before the pope. In 1181 or perhaps a little earlier, he lost the good will of the king, and for a while that of Pope Lucius III. In a blue cloth binding. Externally smart, with just some light bumping and a couple of marks, as well as sunning to the spine. Internally, generally firmly bound. Hinges are slightly strained. Institutional bookplate to front pastedown, with ink stamps to front free-endpaper, front pastedown and title page. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
