Sir Henry Rider Haggard, KBE (1856 - 1925) was an English writer of adventure novels set in exotic locations, predominantly Africa, and a founder of the Lost World literary genre. His stories, situated at the lighter end of Victorian literature, continue to be popular and influential. Maurice Greiffenhagen (1862 - 1931) was a British painter and Royal Academician. He illustrated books and designed posters as well as painting idyllic landscapes. W. H. Smith and Son, London blindstamp to front free endpaper. In a cloth binding. Externally, sound but with slight wear to extremities, rubbing and occasional marks to boards. Hinges strained. Internally, generally firmly bound although slightly strained in places.
