Collected and arranged by Joanna Baillie, a Scottish poet and dramatist. The first edition. This work contains work by Scott, Crabbe, Wordsworth, Southey, Hemans and more. This contains the first appearance of Scott's one act play 'McDuff's Cross' and of Southey's 'The Cataract of Lodore&apos. This work is also the first printing of two sonnets by Wordsworth which were altered for later publications. The letter loosely inserted references the little known poem by Sir George Howland Beaumont on Dr Johnson. The poem in question is to page 258 and is titled 'Additional lines to Retaliation.' The letter observes that there is no reference to Beaumont in Boswell's Life of Johnson. With the bookplate of Sir Edmund Antrobus of the Antrobus Baronets, Chester. Rebound, with original boards preserved. Externally, generally smart. Heavy rubbing to the boards, mostly to the extremities. Bumping to the extremities. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown, Sir Edmund Antrobus. A letter regarding the work is loosely inserted. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to edges.
