Jane Barlow, 1857 – 1917 was an Irish poet and writer. Barlow was educated at home and is said to have been frail and slight. The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography tells us that, "Using the pseudonyms Antares Skorpios and Felix Ryark, Barlow was a frequent contributor to the Dublin University Review from 1866ÂÂ- However, it was through her stories that she gained popularity." Her work often contained poems or speech that was the "supposed dialect of the peasantry, including words such as "begorrah", "musha", and "bedad"". Barlow lived quietly and never married, with rambling as one of her favourite pastimes. She was a friend of Irish literary figures, such as William Butler Yeats and Katherine Tynan. In a full green cloth binding with gilt lettering. Externally, generally smart. There is slight wear to the extremities, including slight bumping. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with scattered spotting. There is an ink signature to the half-title page. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
