Description: London, R Royston, 1757. Leather. A very scarce collection of religious and critical essays by Henry Hammond. With two works bound as one to this volume. Both works contain early re-issues of previously individual publications. The first work to this volume contains several reissues of works, which all have their own title pages individually dated. These are An Account of Mr Cawdry's Triplex Diatribe, dated 1655, with The Baptizing of Infants Reviwed and Defended From The Exception of Mr Tombes, dated 1655, and Ektene'steron or the Degrees of Ardency in Christs Prayer' dated 1656. This work is ESTC ID R229610. Leaf following page 294 of first part to this work is misnumbered as page 265. Two of the leaves to Ektene'steron are mispaginated to the verso. with what should be '12' as '4' and '16' as '8&apos. The second work to this volume is A Collection of Such Answers and Replies Wherein the Book of Schisme is Defended.. The Third Volume. This work has reissues of 'A Reply to the Catholick Gentlemans Ansvver' dated 1654 and 'The Disarmers Dexterities Examined.' dated 1656. This work has the ESTC ID R230553. Pagination for The Disarmers is awry. Pagination goes to 74 and then skips to 81. Following this, the pages to be numbered 90 and 91 are misnumbered 60-61. There is no text missing. Both works to this volume are extremely scarce. Henry Hammond was an English churchman. He was known for his controversial sermons and tracts and was a pioneer Anglican theologian. Much of Hammond's works were influenced by Richard Hooker and Lancelot Andrewes. Rebound in a half calf binding with cloth covered boards. Externally, excellent with minimal shelfwear. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are severely age toned, mostly to edges. Occasional scattered spots throughout. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
