Written by William Henry Bartlett, a British artist known for his drawings being rendered into steel engravings. Bartlett travelled widely, drawing the buildings and scenery of the places he visited, with much time spent in the Balkans, Middle East and Americas, among others. This work presents Bartlett's travels from Marseilles to Alexandria, to Cairo and on to Thebes.Illustrated with thirty-four plates, seventeen vignettes and an engraved title page. Collated, complete.With the loose bookplate of British barrister, politician and cricketer, Mr. George Cavendish Bentinck. Bound in the publisher's original decorative cloth. Externally, sound, with slight bumping to the extremities and a little fading to the cloth. Significant loss to the backstrip, with further horizontal tears to backstrip.Hinges are slightly strained, but holding firm. Lacking front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound.
