A charming sammelband in which eight works of poetry are bound together, including 'Select Pieces' by Benjamin Franklin, and Tomkins's 'Poems of Various Subjects&apos. An impressive collection of early nineteenth century poetical and devotional works, each individually paginated, and with engraved title pages to each. The first work is the very scarce 1802 'Devotional Pieces', featuring a number of hymns and prayers,The second is the very scarce 1801 short work of poetry and prose 'Moral Philosophy - Golden Verses of Pythagoras; The Natural Daughter; &c. &c.&apos.The third very scarce work is 'Amatory. The Invitation. Edwyn and Eltruda', with charming poems, prayers, and anecdotes.The fourth is a posthumously published circa 1804 'Select Pieces' by Benjamin Franklin, including a selection of the American Founding Father's essays, including 'Morals of Chess' and 'A New Mode of Bathing&apos.The fifth volume present is an 1801 edition of the poems of John Armstrong, including a short memoir of the life of the author.The sixth work is an 1800 collection of odes from poets including George Dyer, M. Robinson, J. Ogilvie, A. L. Barbauld and others. The seventh is an 1801 edition of 'Letters from Yorick & Eliza', the collection of ten letters Laurence Sterne wrote to Eliza Draper, with whom he fell in love.The final work is an 1804 'New Edition' of E. Tomkins's 'Poems on Various Subjects', a collections selected to reflect the 'Practice of Virtue', and to demonstrate the beauty of English poetry.With ink inscriptions to the rear endpaper.A wonderful collection of poetical, moral, and devotional works from the early nineteenth century. In a half calf binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Light rubbing to back strip head and tail and boards. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Inscriptions to rear free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages significantly age toned, with instances of spotting. Closed tears and losses to perimeters of first title page. Inscription to head of front title page. Final title page partially hand coloured by a prior owner. Tide marks to fore edges of a number of leaves. Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Good .
