From its first publication it was the most popular English dictionary, until the publication of Johnson's formidable dictionary in 1755. Bailey's 'Dictionary' was one of the first English dictionaries to focus on defining words of common usage, as well as some lesser known, more obscure words. One leaf of adverts to the rear.Register runs as: A2-A4, a4, B-3I4, 3K1, 3K4-6A4. Bound without the title page, the first leaf being A2. Also bound without leaves 3K2 and 3K3. In a full calf binding. Externally, front board is detached but present, rear board held by cords only. Loss of leather to the spine, and to the front board. Bumping to the extremities. Some rubbing and marks, and a little discolouration to the boards and spine. Surface cracks to the spine. Ink notes to the front paste down. Lacking the endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with the occasional spot and handling mark. Lacking the title page, and leaves 3K2 and 3K3. Small tide mark to the tail of the final few pages. Leaves a2 and a3 of the introduction are detaching. The occasional ink note to the text. Good Only . Ill.: None. Good Only .
