In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding and paper covered boards, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. 'Volume the Second' is one of the three manuscript notebooks containing Jane Austen's childhood works. The original notebooks from where they were copied still exist, with two held at the British Museum and the last in the Bodleian Library. This work is comprised of eight pieces written between 1790 to 1793, when Austen was aged fourteen-seventeen. First published in 1922 under the title 'Love and Freindship' and then again in 1954. This particular edition includes explanatory notes and a complete record of alterations made by Austen. With a frontispiece and a folding plate to the rear. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding and paper covered boards, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with light bumping to the extremities and the head of the spine. The occasional mark to the cloth. Dust wrapper is very smart, with light shelf wear and the odd spot. Light sunning to the wrap, more to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Near Fine . Ill.: None. Near Fine/Very Good Indeed.
