The introduction to volume I contains a full discussion of Barbour's authorship, which is disputed, and comparison between the "Buik" and his "Bruce".'The Buik of Alexander' is a title for the two known Scots versions of the Alexander romance stories, a common genre in Medieval European literature, particularly France and the British Isles.  In uniform quarter morocco bindings over cloth covered boards, titles in gilt to morocco spine labels. Previous ownership ink inscription to front free endpaper, undated. Externally very smart with light rubbing to extremities of spine and boards. Internally, firmly bound.
