Saint Aurelius Augustine; D. A. B. Caillau; D. B. Saint-Yves - Sancti Aurelii Augustini Hipponensis Episcopi Operum Supplementum I

Title: Sancti Aurelii Augustini Hipponensis Episcopi Operum Supplementum I
Description: Parisiis, Apud Parent-Desbarres, 1836. Cloth. A scarce volume of the supplement to the collected works of Saint Augustine, in the original Latin language. Scarce work. In the original Latin, including unedited extracts of his sermons from the archive of Monte-Cassino, and from the Laurentian Medici library in Florence. Monte Cassino was largely destroyed in the second world war after it was bombed by the Americans and subsequently occupied by German paratroops. The extracts included here show the value of its archives, which were thankfully mostly preserved. In his theological reasoning, he was influenced chiefly by Stoicism, Platonism, and Neo-Platonism. His theodicies and ruminations on subjects such as time have been studied and appreciated well into the modern era. The collected works of Saint Augustine, or Augustine of Hippo, a theologian and philosopher whose writings influenced the development of much of Western philosophy and Western Christianity. He is viewed as one of the most important Church Fathers of the Latin Church in the Patristic Period. With previously unpublished sermons extracted from the Monte-Cassini Archive and the Kaurentian Medicine Library of Florence. Collected by D. A. B. Caillau and D. B. Saint-Yves. Bound in full green calf. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear and fading to the spine and boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Pencil marks to the title page. Library stamp to the pastedown. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: None. Very Good Indeed .
