A first edition of the posthumously published diary and letters of Frances Burney. With two folding plates of facsimile letters to volume I, and frontispieces to the remaining six volumes. Frances Burney, later Madame d'Arblay, was an English satirical novelist, diarist, and playwright who wrote a total of eight plays and four novels, most notably the 1778 epistolary novel Evelina. In her diaries, Burney recounts events from her childhood and shares her observations of the noted personalities who entered her home. Extending across 72 years of her life, the posthumously published diaries provide an interesting portrait of eighteenth century life. There is a little water damage to first few pages of volumes V and VI. With a 24 page catalogue of adverts to the rear of volume VI. With an 8 page catalogue of adverts to the rear of volume VII. Rebound in a brown cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards, with some light bumping to the head and tail of volumes II, III, and VII. The front hinge is starting to volume IV. Internally, generally firmly bound with a few points of strain. Pages are age-toned with light spotting. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
