This fifth edition - the first illustrated edition - is accompanied by 425 vignettes and woodcuts by Gustave Doré (1832-1883), and was considered to be Doré's masterpiece. A variety of engravers, such as Lavieille, Rouget, Pisan, Brévière and Piaud, engraved Doré's illustrations for this work. Bookplate to the front paste down. In a full morocco binding. Externally very smart, with some fading to spine and a little shelf wear to the boards and extremities. Gilt remains bright. Internally, firmly bound.
