Herbert Ernest Bates CBE was an English write, best known for Love for Lydia and My Uncle Silas. He was a prolific writer and this is one of his many short stories. Prior owner's book plate and ink inscription from 1965 to the first pastedown. From the library of John Anderson. In the original publisher's cloth binding and unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart. There is some light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. To the dust wrapper, there are a couple of very small tears. There is some slight spotting to the fore edge. Prior owner's book plate and ink inscription from 1965 to the first pastedown.
