While travelling in Europe Brooke prepared a thesis, entitled "John Webster and the Elizabethan Drama", focusing on the Jacobean dramatist, Webster, who was best known for his tragedies The White Devil and The Duchess of Malfi, which are often seen as masterpieces of the early 17th-century English stage. The dissertation earned Brooke a fellowship at King's College, Cambridge, in March 1913. In the original black cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear and fading to the spine.
