At the time this work was published eating wild fungi was considered to be dangerous and eccentric in England; Badham's work helped to de-mystify fungi. It appears that Badham became interested in foraging fungi whilst visiting markets in Italy.The colour plates are by the noted mycological illustrator Anna Maria Hussey.Prior owner's gift inscription to the verso of the front endpaper, 'Aunt Caroline, with J. C's many kind regards, Ottery St Mary July 1852&apos. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, cloth is faded to the spine and extremities of the boards. Cracks to the spine, resulting in a little loss of cloth and a little lifting to the rear joint, including a little loss to the tail of the spine. Light rubbing to the boards. A few minor marks to the boards and spine. Minor bumping to the extremities. Front hinge is starting but firm. Prior owner's gift inscription to the verso of the front endpaper. Internally, binding is strained, with some pages detaching, including the title page. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some spots and handling marks, including the occasional light spot to the plates. Good . Ill.: [Anna Maria Hussey]. Good .
