Description: London , Jeremiah How, 1847 . Leather. A lovely leather bound and richly illustrated copy of the first series of this book of ballads. Samuel Carter Hall was a Victorian journalist, best known for his editorship of The Art Journal. This is an extensive volume of British Ballads, being the first series. The work was first published in 1842 and contains a lovely selection of ballads and poems including Colin and Lucy, Lord Soulis and The Children in the Wood. Richly illustrated throughout the text by various artists. In full calf binding. Externally, generally lovely with some light rubbing to the spine and extremities. Previous owner bookplate to the front pastedown for Egerton Parker. Front hinge is starting but remains firm. Internally, firmly bound with bright and generally clean pages with some scattered spots throughout. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good Indeed .
