Philip Gilbert Hamerton (1834-1894) was a British artist, art critic and author. He was a keen advocate of contemporary printmaking and most of his writings concern the graphic arts. He was an important theorist of the English Etching Revival. This beautifully illustrated volume traces the influence of landscape upon the minds of artists, with reproductions (some original etchings) of art by J. M. W. Turner, Titian, Albert Dürer, and Gustave Courbet, among others. A page of publisher's advertisements to the rear. Rebacked with original spine laid down. In a quarter calf binding with renewed end papers. Externally smart, though spine is somewhat rubbed, with a little bumping to the extremities and boards. Internally, firmly bound.
