Grattan's writing vividly describes the beauty of the country, with interesting insights into the state of France in the decades after the Revolution and into the Napoleonic Wars.Thomas Colley Grattan eventually published three series of this title, the first appearing in 1823, and the third in 1827. Grattan was good friends with prominent literary figures of the day, including Washington Irving, who suggested that he edited his notes from his travels and publish them.Volume I includes 'The Bear Hunter', Volume II 'The Priest and The Garde-du-Corps', and Volume III 'The Priest and The Garde-du-Corps (Concluded) and 'The Vouee Au Blanc&apos.Bookplate of Sir Robert Johnson Eden to the front paste down of Volume I.Bound without half-titles to Volumes II and III. Volume I was not published with a half-title. In a full calf binding. Externally, smart. Light rubbing to the joints and extremities, and to the head and tail of the spines. Light bumping to the extremities. Front joint of Volume I is starting but firm. Light spots and a little discolouration to the boards and spines. Small patch of wear to the tail of the front board of Volume I. Very small patches of rubbing to the tail of the front boards of Volumes II and III. Small chips to the tail of the joints of Volume III. Bookplate to the front paste down of Volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with only a few occasional spots. Very Good .
