Eward throughout, with her inscription to the 'this book belongs to' leaf, and the head of the title page, and her inscriptions, annotations and hand colouring throughout the work.A very scarce first edition from one of the most celebrated writers of twentieth century children's tales, renowned for books including Noddy, The Famous Five, and Malory Towers. In the publisher's original paper covered boards. Bumping to back strip head and tail, resulting in losses of paper, with discolouration to back strip and board perimeters. Closed tear in paper to front joint. Ink stain to centre of front board, with amateur colouring to rear board. Front hinge starting, with board holding firm. Rear endpaper adhered to rear pastedown, with significant former owner's drawings to front pastedown and free endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Inscription to head of title page. Pages bright, with the amateur colouring in of a prior owner to each page, and the odd ink inscription throughout. Good Only . Ill.: Dorothy M. Wheeler. Good Only .
