His paintings were enormously popular, and expensive, during his lifetime, but fell out of critical favour during the early twentieth century.Illustrated with eighty-one illustrations to volume I, and seventy-nine to volume II - present in one-hundred and fifty four plates - including mounted plates, colour plates and photogravures. Collated, complete. Barrington was a British biographer and novelist, author of works such as 'Reminiscences of G. F. Watts', 'The Complete Works of Walter Bagehot' and 'Lena's Picture&apos. In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with minor discolouration to back strips. Front and rear hinges of volume I starting, with boards holding firm.
