A second edition of this witty dictionary aimed at "men of the world" in the Georgian era, including contemporary slang terms. First published in French in 1818. First published in English in 1820 under the title A New Dictionary for the Fashionable World. Loosely inserted definition from a previous owner. Ink inscriptions to the front free end paper and the title page, dated 1834. Further ink inscriptions to a few of the pages in the text. In a quarter cloth binding. Externally sound, with wear to the extremities, including a small loss to the head of the spine, and staining to both boards. The front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, the binding is slightly strained in places. Pages are generally clean with the odd spot throughout. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
