With the title page of the standard paper edition loosely inserted.A presentation copy from the editor, inscribed 'To John Trotter Brockett Esq. from the editor', dated August 1818. With a further inscription on the same leaf, dated 1856. Brockett was himself an antiquarian, was educated in Newcastle, and in the year this facsimile edition was published, himself wrote 'Hints on the Propriety of establishing a Typographical Society in Newcastle&apos.An excellent facsimile edition of seventeenth century merchant William Gray's 1649 account of the history and topography of Newcastle after it had suffered badly during the Civil War.With the library slip of the Bewick Collection of S. Roscoe loosely inserted, and the bookplate of John Crawford Hodgson to the front pastedown. In a full straight grain morocco binding. Light rubbing to back strip and board perimeters, otherwise externally lovely. Front hinge starting, with board holding firm. Bookplate to front pastedown, inscriptions to a front blank.
