An extensive and informative directory of Lancaster by Edward Baines, the editor and proprietor of Leeds Mercury. He was an author of both historical and geographical reference works.The maps and plans referred to on the title page are, as usual, not present. These were issued separately.  With advertisement tipped in to front free endpaper of volume II, and inscription to rear pastedown of volume I.Baines provides 'a Variety of Commercial & Statistical Information' while providing a history of the local area, and discussions of Manchester, Warrington, Blackburn and other locations. In full calf bindings. Rubbing to back strip heads and tails, with marks to boards, and small loss of leather to volume II rear board. Hinges starting, with boards holding firm. Inscription to rear pastedown of volume I. Worming to volume II from head of front pastedown to head of page 70, not affecting text. Pages clean and bright. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
