Boswell encouraged Johnson on this tour through the highlands and western islands of Scotland, setting out from Edinburgh in 1773. This work was penned from the diary that Boswell kept during the tour, and was published after Johnson's death in 1784.Boswell and Johnson met in 1763 when Johnson was fifty-four, and they became fast friends. Their friendship resulted in the influential biography 'The Life of Samuel Johnson&apos. In a full tree calf binding. Externally, with some loss of leather to the tail of the rear joint and tail of the spine, and smaller patches of loss to the front board. Surface cracks to the spine. A little loss to the spine labels. Minor bumping to the extremities and to the head and tail of the spine. A little rubbing and just a few light marks to the boards and spine. Small amount of loss to the tail of the front board. Front hinge is starting a little but remains firm. Bound without the endpapers. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound, strained in one place between pages 208 and 209. Pages are bright with some spots. Prior owner's ink inscription to the half-title and title page. Tide mark to the first few pages, from the front paste down to page 24. Tidemark to other pages from the middle to the end of the textblock. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
