I, and coloured lithograph frontispiece, six full page plates and five in-text illustrations to vol. II. Collated, complete. No half titles as issued. Samuel Baker was an English explorer, naturalist, big game hunter and more, who also held the titles of Pasha and Major-General in the Ottoman Empire and Egypt, as well as serving as Governor-General of the Equatorial Nile Basin between 1869 and 1873. He was the first European to explore Lake Albert, and is remembered for his exploration of the Nile and interior Central Africa. With his travels and explorations, he demonstrated that the Nile flowed through the Albert Nyanza, and formed the idea of the importance of the Albert and Victoria lake sources in contributing to the Nile flow rate, ideas shared in these volume, which provide a geographical look at the great basin of the River Nile at Lake Albert in Uganda. In full calf binding with five raised bands, gilt tooling to spine and extremities marbled edges and endpapers. externally very smart with minor shelf wear, minor rubbing to boards and spine. Previous ownership inscription to recto front blank page, dated 1872. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean. Large folding map to vol. I chipped with few closed tears, one previously tape repaired, and minor odd spotting, lower half detached from top half but present, lightly soiled. Illustrated with frontispieces, thirteen full page plates including large folding colour map, and other illustrations in text. Collated, complete. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .
