Many of the ivories were taken to the United Kingdom and deposited in the British Museum, which holds the largest collection of these pieces. Contents include 'The City of Nimrud', 'Syrian and Phoenician Art', and 'The Loftus Group: Shapes and Motifs&apos. Written by Richard David Barnett (1909-1986), the Keeper, Department of Western Asiatic Antiquities at the British Museum. Barnett was also a Fellow of the British Academy and was appointed a 'Commander of the Order of the British Empire' in 1974. He wrote a range of publications, including 'The Jewish Sect of Qumran and the Essenes', which he translated, and 'Treasures of a London Temple. Published by the Trustees of the British Museum. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original quarter-cloth binding on paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart. Light wear to the extremities of the boards with light bumping to the tail of spine. A few marks to boards, as well as light discolouration to the margins of boards. A few spots to the endpapers. Internally, firmly bound.
